It was borne out of a sensible desire of some patients to have regular comprehensive health checks followed by continuing personal care from the same doctor. Many patients prefer to consult one primary care physician who has a detailed knowledge of their medical background and a personal interest in their case.
The scheme provides traditional general practice care but with the advantage of having as much time as is necessary at each consultation to deal with problems thoroughly and at the time when it is most needed.
Doctors are taught at medical school to take time and care in listening to and examining patients. This is often difficult within the framework of the National Health Service and can be frustrating to patients and doctors alike.
